~Kevin, First time Camper Parent - Summer 2010

“All I can say is thank you for showing our Daughter what being in the outdoors is all about.   She had the time of her life at camp and sang us all camp songs she learned on the way home!  When we arrived on Sunday to drop her off and back again on Friday to pick her up, her counselors “Joker” and “Cha Cha” were all very pleasant to talk to and were ready to answer any questions that I had  please let them know that are doing a great job and thank them for us.  She is already talking about coming back next summer!   Thank you!”

~Tanya, First time Pamper Parent - Summer 2010

“I first would like to say how very impressed I am with you and your staff.

This was our daughter’s first experience at an overnight camp so you can probably expect that there was some anxiety on both child and mom's part. Once arriving at the camp we were made to feel very welcome and at ease immediately by how organized the staff was. I appreciated that.

Secondly, to be able to go to your web site and see pictures and video's was so important and fun for me. I enjoyed e-mailing my daughter as well.

I look forward to spending time at the family barbecue tomorrow and meeting the counselors along with hearing the great stories of the week.

In addition it was the YMCA that made it possible through scholarship for our daughter to enjoy this camp experience. As a single mother I thank you for that opportunity.”

~Dan Fleshman, First time Camper Parent and Camp Alumni - Summer 2010 “It was great to see the camp again.  The last time I was at the camp was back in 1980 I was very impressed with the friendly nature of your staff and the welcome that was given to us.  The time I spent at camp working as a cabin leader and then again as a guide and team leader has kept me on a successful leadership path most of my adult life.  Our  daughter cherishes the  memories of camp and wants to return year after year.  I look forward to seeing you again next summer.”

~ Cathy, Camper Parent and Aunt, - Summer 2009 and 2010

“Yesterday, my sister and I dropped our daughters off at your camp for the second year in a row.  Despite the fact that we were returning customers, we were still anxious about assuring our girls a great time at camp.  They actually have a great deal to live up to.  You see, our wonderful memories of summers at YMCA camp in Connecticut have had 35 years to build in our minds.   Last year, I was extremely anxious, as my daughter has a skin condition that is exacerbated by heat and her session last year was during 100 degree temperatures.  Obviously, she would not be back, had she not had a WONDERFUL experience then.

As a parent, sending your child away to sleep-away camp is extremely anxiety-provoking.  As a child, it can be just as much of a risk.  I feel strongly that our daughters’ positive experiences were attributed to the competence of your staff.  Although, I do not witness most of the interactions between your staff and my child, I did see her connections and recollections after camp last year.  They were with great excitement and independence.

What I did witness, last year as well as yesterday is the admittance process at your camp.  Both years I was equally impressed.  Your staff is very clearly child-focused and their friendly and caring approach to the campers and their families make for the most welcoming experience I could ever imagine.  It is obvious that your staff has been taught this greeting process, where they meet in the parking lot and have an escort through the administrative necessities of the experience all the way to the introduction of the counselor at the cabin.

I remember the angst of the first day of camp that I had first hand many years ago.  I always had a pleasant experience at camp, but the first day was stressful.  Although, at the time, I never would have guessed that the experience is even more stressful as a parent.  Leaving my vulnerable child in the hands of young strangers for a week goes against most of my parental instincts.  Such instincts should leave me feeling extremely worried after leaving my daughter in your charge.  However, each and every staff person from the person parking cars to the person escorting us from the parking lot to the cabin to the counselor herself were helpful, friendly and welcoming.   Their ability to greet each child at eye level, actively listen to the adults and make personal connections assures me that my child is in good hands.

I wanted to write and thank you for hiring naturally friendly and caring people to staff your program and training them to create a welcoming environment for my daughter and my niece.  It made my experience as the departing parent a great deal less stressful and that means a lot to me.”

~Kris, Camper Mom Summer - 2010
“Just wanted to say that we were impressed with the experience our son had at camp this summer.  Our son attended another local camp last year and liked it, but we just wanted to try another camp.   Everyone at the Y-Camp looked us straight in the eye and shook hands and welcomed us like family.   The greeting made a nervous mom and dad feel a lot better about leaving their boy.  The pictures on website are great!  Thanks for a great week at camp!“
